A Step-by-Step Guide to the Breast Lift Procedure

Plastic Surgeon Scottsdale

As you age, the skin around your breasts can lose its elasticity and begin to sag. Weight, loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding can also contribute to sagging breasts. Breast lift procedures can restore the shape, position, and volume of breasts for a more youthful appearance. If your plastic surgeon suggests that you are a good candidate for a breast lift, here is a look at what you can expect from the procedure.

Pre-Operative Preparation
Before you undergo a breast lift, Dr. Geoghegan will determine if the procedure is safe for you. In addition to reviewing your medical history, she may request that you undergo certain lab tests to determine if you have any conditions that could interfere with your ability to heal. Your surgeon may also recommend that you discontinue certain medications and change the way you take others in the days before the surgery. If you smoke, she will also request that you stop for a period of time before and after the surgery to improve your ability to heal.

Procedure
Breast lifts are performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis unless you are having a lift in conjunction with other procedures. Your plastic surgeon will determine the best method of achieving the look you want based on your anatomy and the degree of sagging you are experiencing. In some cases, Dr. Geoghegan may recommend that you get breast implants at the same time as the lift if you are concerned about loss of volume in the upper part of your breasts. Most procedures take between two and three hours.

Post-Operative Recovery
In most cases, you will return home after surgery after a brief stay in an outpatient recovery room. You will receive pain medication to manage any discomfort you are experiencing. Most patients stay home from work for about a week after their procedures and avoid strenuous activities for three weeks.

At Oasis Plastic Surgery, we are always available to answer your questions about your procedure and help you plan for a fast and safe recovery. To schedule an appointment with Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jenniger Geoghegan, please call (480) 264-6428.
