Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting: Which Is Right for You?

Plastic Surgery Scottsdale

Liposuction and CoolSculpting are both effective fat reduction techniques that have helped a large number of patients achieve a trimmer, more toned physique. There are pros and cons to each treatment, so there are a number of factors to consider before deciding which one can help you achieve your treatment goals. The Oasis team will review each procedure with you in full and weigh your options. Here are some of the things to keep in mind as you are choosing a body contouring procedure.

Amount of Excess Fat
Both liposuction and CoolSculpting target the bulges and roles of unwanted fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise efforts. However, the amount of fat you have could help you decide which procedure to undergo. Liposuction is a more aggressive treatment, so it typically does better at removing larger areas of fat. CoolSculpting is still effective at targeting these areas, but if you have a larger amount of fat, you may not be completely satisfied with your results. Your plastic surgeon will evaluate the areas you want to treat and advise you if one procedure is more likely to help you achieve the contouring you want than the other.

Recovery Time
Liposuction is an invasive plastic surgery procedure that is performed under general anesthesia and requires about two weeks for recovery. Most patients need at least a couple of days off from work. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that doesn’t require any kind of anesthesia. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. If you can’t commit to the recovery time for liposuction, then CoolSculpting could be the right solution.

Personal Preference
In some cases, your plastic surgeon may say that either procedure could work for you, but you may have a preference about which procedure you want. For instance, some people may prefer to have CoolSculpting because they want to avoid anesthesia, while others may choose liposuction since it can be combined with other plastic surgeries and can remove more fat in a single session.
